Why to Stain
Staining your wood deck helps make your deck look beautiful. But there’s much more to deck staining than that! There are a number of reasons why everyone should stain their deck every 1-4 years (depending on the type of stain). Your wood deck is an investment that staining will help preserve. The fact is, wood is not invincible, especially when it’s outside under constant attack from Mother Nature. Some of the biggest threats to your wood deck are moisture, UV rays from the sun, mold, and mildew. These elements will damage the wood, causing splitting and cracking, and also cause the wood to fade and lose it’s beautiful color. Luckily, deck stains are designed to protect your wood from these elements.
When to Stain
When it comes to the time of year that is best to stain a deck, there are a few things to take into consideration. Temperature and humidity play a key role in finding the perfect time to stain. If it is too cold, the stain can take a long time to dry and potentially be damaged by moisture or other things. Also if the weather is too hot the stain may dry unevenly. You’ll want to find a day that where there is no expected precipitation and that is somewhere between 50 and 80 degrees. This time of year (late spring) is usually a great time to stain your deck!
